June 14 marked Donald Trump’s 79th birthday, and he chose to spend it in a big way by attending a military parade in Washington, DC, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army.

As Trump made his entrance to the sounds of ‘Hail to the Chief’ and ‘Happy Birthday’, he was joined by First Lady Melania Trump, various family members, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and several other high-ranking officials.

The event turned into a showcase of America’s military strength, featuring a wide array of tanks and aircraft from different time periods.There were also parachuters descending from the sky and more than 6,000 soldiers in historical uniforms marching proudly through the streets of the capital.

The parade provided a sweeping look into the evolution of the U.S. Army, highlighting pivotal moments starting from the Battle of Lexington during the Revolutionary War all the way to present-day operations.This large-scale military gathering marked a historic occasion, as the last time American troops came together in such overwhelming numbers was back in 1991 following the Gulf War.

President Trump addressed the massive audience and the troops at the end of the event. During his eight-minute speech, he stated: “Every other country celebrates their victories. It’s about time America did too.”

“We’re the hottest country in the world right now,” he added, followed by “If you threaten the American people, our soldiers are coming for you.”Once the parade wrapped up, Trump and the audience were treated to an enormous fireworks show over the scenic Tidal Basin, lighting up the night sky.

Steven Cheung, the White House communications director, proudly claimed that over 250,000 patriotic Americans came out to show support, even though the weather forecast threatened rain.

Despite the official figures, many who viewed the event firsthand or through footage questioned the actual size of the crowd.Several major outlets, including the Associated Press, the New York Times, and Fox News, reported that the real turnout appeared to be far smaller than what was being advertised.

In the aftermath, plenty of people jumped on social media to criticize what they saw as a disappointing turnout for such a costly and heavily promoted event.“Bro said ‘display of military might’. I see lawn chairs and a Bluetooth speaker,” someone tweeted, adding “It looks like a recruiting booth a Six Flags.”

Some viewers also expressed sympathy for the military personnel involved and argued that the entire event, which was estimated to have cost somewhere between $25 million and $45 million, seemed like an unnecessary expense.

“Military parades are a waste. I want our troops to be allowed to do their jobs, not be paraded around for trump’s birthday,” a third person wrote, clearly unimpressed.This elaborate celebration fulfilled a longtime wish for Trump. He had hoped for such a parade back in 2017 during his first term, but his own administration had pushed back against the idea at the time.

The day’s events were also met with political pushback. Protesters purposefully organized a large demonstration in Philadelphia on the same day, aiming to provide a sharp contrast between their grassroots movement and what they described as a costly and unnecessary birthday parade. According to ‘No Kings’ protesters, as reported by The Independent, the march was designed to highlight these opposing values.

On that same Saturday, demonstrators flooded streets in multiple cities across the country, voicing their concerns over Trump’s reportedly authoritarian direction, which includes harsh immigration policies.Before the parade, Trump had warned that protesters would be met with a “very big force.” Meanwhile, Cheung mocked the opposition on Twitter by calling the demonstration an ‘utter failure with minuscule attendance’ in a sarcastic jab.

“It is sad Democrats and liberals would rather support criminals and illegals instead of celebrating the 250th anniversary of our great U.S. Army and Flag Day. But many more Americans are commemorating our brave military men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice and who those continue to serve our country,” he added.
