The devout Catholic will perform with the duo at a star-studded Christmas concert in the Holy City on Saturday night, nine years after she sang for Pope Benedict in Glasgow.

SuBo, 58, said: “To be at the Vatican meeting the Pope was such a humbling experience and to be asked to take part in his Christmas concert was a true honour.

“I have to pinch myself at how lucky I am and ten years on I’m still having the most fantastic time with these incredible opportunities.

“I don’t and won’t ever take this for granted.”

SuBo, of Blackburn, West Lothian, will perform two solo songs and will also join Richie, 80’s idol Tyler and other acts for an ensemble.

She said: “It was wonderful to be in the company of music royalty.

“I am a huge fan of Lionel and Bonnie, and they are lovely, warm people.”

The festive gig is part of the Catholic Church’s pledge to help save the threatened Amazon rainforest and those who live there.

Susan added: “It’s a very worthwhile cause.”

The Vatican said: “The event reflects Pope Francis’ commitment to the Amazon.”

The annual charity gig has been staged at the Paul VI Audience Hall since 1993.

Previous acts include fellow Scot Annie Lennox, 64, Bryan Adams, 60 and Tom Jones, 79.

In 2010, Susan sang for Pope Benedict and 70,000 worshippers at an open-air Mass at Bellahouston Park.

Susan starts her first UK tour in six years this March
